Drug Trafficking Suspect Sent to U.S.

Mexican authorities extradited to San Diego a suspected drug trafficker who allegedly was part of a gang that sought to sneak narcotics into the United States through a tunnel from Tijuana eight years ago, U.S. authorities said Monday.
Miguel Angel Martinez Martinez, 40, is the second important Mexican drug suspect to be extradited to face U.S. charges in San Diego since Mexico’s Supreme Court cleared the way for handing over Mexican nationals in January. Martinez was charged in a 1995 conspiracy indictment.
Martinez faces a possible sentence of 10 years to life if convicted.
