TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Oklahoma City bomber Timothy J. McVeigh is “sorry people had to lose their lives” in the blast, the Buffalo News reports in its editions today, quoting his recent letters to two reporters.
McVeigh, who had been unrepentant, maintained that the bombing was “a legitimate tactic” in his personal war against the U.S. government.
In letters that the newspaper describes as recent, McVeigh wrote: “I am sorry these people had to lose their lives.”
The letters were addressed to reporters Dan Herbeck and Lou Michel, authors of a book based on prison interviews with McVeigh, who grew up near Buffalo, N.Y.
