Teen in Car Killed in Gang Shooting
A 19-year-old Santa Ana man was shot to death Wednesday by a rival gang member, police said.
The shooting occurred about 6:20 p.m. in the 800 block of East Washington Avenue, near the intersection of Santiago Avenue.
Christian Ramirez Vega was pronounced dead several hours later at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.
Vega was apparently stopped at a traffic signal when another vehicle stopped next to his, police said. Someone in the second vehicle shot Vega once in the head through an open window and then drove away, police said.
“Right now, we don’t have many details except that it was gang-related and that it was a drive-by,†said Mario Corona, a spokesman for the Santa Ana Police Department.
Vega had friends in his car at the time, but police said they don’t know how many might have seen his killer. The friends drove Vega’s car to a nearby parking lot and called 911.
Police are investigating.
