LAUSANNE, Switzerland — Juan Antonio Samaranch was released from the hospital Friday and told to skip a soccer game being held in his honor.
The 81-year-old former president of the International Olympic Committee was hospitalized last week for “extreme fatigue.”
“He is feeling much better but he will have to continue resting,” IOC director-general Francois Carrard said. “He is in excellent spirits and he seems to be getting better every day.”
Samaranch had been taken to the hospital on his 81st birthday, shortly after returning from an Olympic meeting in Moscow.
Carrard said Samaranch would be unable to attend an exhibition game in his honor Friday night between Spanish power Real Madrid and Lausanne Sport. The city of Lausanne plans to inaugurate the renovated Samaranch Stadium.
“He is still too tired,” Carrard said.
