Meyer Will Lead L.A. Football All-Stars
Erik Meyer, who passed for 38 touchdowns last season for La Mirada High, will be quarterback for Los Angeles County on Saturday at Cerritos College for the first Los Angeles-Orange County All-Star Classic.
The Los Angeles team was limited to players from schools in the eastern portion of the county in order to make it comparable to the number of schools in Orange County.
Felipe Aguilar, who helped Los Altos win the Southern Section Division VII title, is the other Los Angeles quarterback.
De’Andre Scott of Santa Fe Springs St. Paul and Justin Phinisee of Downey will be in the Los Angeles backfield. The defense features Lakewood Mayfair lineman Allen Kennett, who had five sacks in the recent California-Texas Shrine game.
Long Beach Poly, the Division I champion, will be represented by three defensive players: lineman Paueli Tamasoa, linebacker Taofi Tamasoa and back Junior Taliauli.
Newport Beach Newport Harbor’s Chris Manderino, a running back and linebacker who was the Southern Section’s Division VI co-player of the year with Meyer, heads the Orange County squad.
Brian Porteous and Andy Howe, linebackers for undefeated Division VI champion Irvine, help anchor the Orange County defense. Anaheim Loara’s Rudy Acosta, who had nine interceptions, also will be on defense.
Marijon Ancich of St. Paul and Frank Mazzotta Jr. of La Habra are the coaches.
Kickoff is 6 p.m. and admission is $10.
