Humans might have begun farming 13,000 years ago, about 2,500 years earlier than previously thought, according to new findings unearthed in the Euphrates region of Syria. A team led by archeologist Gordon Hillman of University College, London found evidence of a climate change occurring in the region about 11,000 BC, followed by the appearance of fat-grained cereals, such as rye, that could only have been selected and propagated by humans.
