Driver Seriously Hurt After Crashing Into SUV
An 18-year-old Newbury Park woman was critically injured Saturday after her car collided with a sport utility vehicle, authorities said.
Stephanie Whittington was driving her 1992 Honda Prelude west on Hillcrest Drive about 4:15 p.m. when she lost control at Citation Way and spun into the eastbound lanes, where she was struck by a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said.
She was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center with multiple crushed bones and internal bleeding, hospital spokeswoman Kris Carraway-Bowman said.
Blazer driver Thomas Mendel, 52, of Thousand Oaks, sustained minor injuries. The cause was under investigation but authorities said preliminary reports indicated Whittington had been speeding.
