A fire captain was injured while battling a blaze in Irvine early Friday after the burned-out second floor collapsed, officials said.
Bill Valdez, 47, a 25-year veteran, was treated at a local hospital for a shoulder injury, said Kirk Summers, a spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority. Two other firefighters were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.
The fire started at 1:19 a.m. in the two-story home on Weeping Wood, Summers said. Two dozen firefighters worked 20 minutes to control the blaze, which caused $150,000 in damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Summers said.
