Girl’s Injury Prompts Change at Disneyland
Disneyland has removed the toy rifles from Tom Sawyer Island after an accident in which a 6-year-old North Hollywood girl lost a finger and today will reopen the play fort in which they were located.
Park officials will remove the mock rifles from Fort Wilderness “until we understand the issues related to the accident,†park spokesman Ray Gomez said Tuesday.
On Jan. 21, Priscilla Figueroa was playing with one of the toy guns when she slipped and caught her left index finger on something, according to police reports. She lost two-thirds of her finger.
Although the paramedics’ report indicates that her finger was stuck in the trigger, it remains unclear exactly how the accident happened. A police report on the incident indicated that the girl might have been wearing a ring at the time.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has said it will investigate the incident, but has not yet contacted Disneyland for a statement.
