Center Desmond Penigar’s 52 points in Ventura College’s 110-106 overtime victory over Oxnard on Saturday in a Western State Conference Northern Division game tied a school record.
Penigar made a four-point play with 11 seconds to play in overtime to lift the Pirates (18-5, 3-0 in division play).
The 6-7 sophomore made seven three-point baskets.
Duane Asplund scored 52 points for the Pirates in a game in the 1953-54 season.

The men’s basketball teams from Valley and Moorpark colleges on Saturday looked nothing like the state semifinalists they were last season.
Or like state championship contenders this season.
First-place Valley lost to last-place Citrus, 68-65, in a WSC Southern Division game.
The Monarchs (4-1 in the division) blew a 15-point halftime lead. Citrus is 1-5.
Moorpark gave up a seven-point halftime advantage and lost to Santa Barbara City, 64-51, in a WSC Northern Division game.
Moorpark (14-6, 1-2) fell two games behind first-place Ventura and one game behind second-place Santa Barbara (12-12, 2-1).
