Joe Weldon Hart, a retired painter, died Tuesday at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura after a lengthy illness. He was 80.
He was born on Aug. 4, 1920, in Snyder, Texas, and had lived in Ventura County for 39 years after moving from Lompoc.
Hart, a commercial painter who retired in 1985, was a former member of the Moose Lodge and Lions Club of Ventura. He was also a former country-and-western drummer and an avid Dodger baseball fan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, M. Etta Gould, on Jan. 3.
He is survived by sons Clarence of Riverside, Don of Santa Paula, David of Santa Maria, John of Arroyo Grande, Rick of Ames, Iowa, James of Missouri; daughters Linda Wood and Cynthia Harrigan, both of Arroyo Grande; sister Wilota Swanson of Sebastopol, Calif.; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Ted Mayr Chapel in Ventura. A memorial service is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday, also at the Ted Mayr Chapel, with Pastor Rick Swanson officiating, assisted by Pastor Rick Hart. Burial will immediately follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
