Tri-Valley Vote Nixes New Frontier
A proposal to form an association between the Tri-Valley and Frontier leagues was defeated Wednesday.
Principals of the five Tri-Valley high schools voted unanimously not to pursue an association in which the leagues would have formed two divisions made up of stronger and weaker teams.
Tri-Valley administrators felt it was in the best interest of their students and communities to keep the league in its traditional form, comprised of Bishop Diego, Carpinteria, Fillmore, Oak Park and St. Bonaventure.
The Frontier League includes Calabasas, Malibu, Nordhoff, Santa Clara and Santa Paula. Calabasas will move to the Marmonte League in the fall of 2002.
FOOTBALL
* St. Bonaventure and Hart have finalized the date of their nonleague game next season. It will be played Sept. 13 at Ventura High.
* New Crespi Coach Troy Thomas will meet with parents and community members tonight at 7 in the school gym.
BASKETBALL
* Sheryl Swoopes, WNBA most valuable player and two-time Olympic gold medalist, will host a camp for girls 7-17 on March 10 at Santa Monica College.
