Mideast Refugees
Muhammad Muslih and Richard Murphy (Commentary, Jan. 4) harp repeatedly on the return of millions of Palestinians living outside of Israel. They forget two facts. One million Palestinians now live in Israel proper (about one-fifth of the population) with full, permanent citizenship. In 1948, ’49 and ’50 approximately equal numbers of Jews and Arabs fled their homes. Muslih and Murphy wrote about the Arabs who fled. They ignore the Jews who were forced to flee their homes in the Arab Middle East. Should not the latter be returned and/or compensated if the former are?
