Two Paws Up for Vigilant Hero Flossie
“Ruff, ruff, arf, arf.†Lick in the face. Slobber, slobber. That’s just our way of giving Flossie the Dog mad luv for saving America’s sweetheart Drew Barrymore and her funny-man beau Tom Green from their terrible house fire. From Lassie to Flossie to Turner and Hooch, it’s always good to have a pooch. . . . The only person I’d gain a pound for (aside from periodic bunnies in the oven) is Monica May. The hot North chef just debuted her latest incredible edibles at last week’s grand opening of Belly, a divine West Hollywood bar and tapas joint. I snarfed down the ceviche and meatballs. Belly, which re-teams May and her designer hubby Ricki Kline (North, Vynyl, etc.), is very exciting news for those who like to take five on Santa Monica Boulevard. The famed stretch of blacktop--which is looking sharp now that its face lift is nearing completion--just added another feather to its cap with Belly, a bright aquamarine venue that reminds me of Barbara Eden’s pillow palace in “I Dream of Jeannie.†With the uber-hot Latin Lounge just down the street, West Hollywood is looking mighty fine these days. . . .
Made plans to check out Brad Johnson’s latest venture, V Bar, a new hot spot in Las Vegas at the Venetian hotel. Caught up with Johnson at his Sunset Room, which is hosting Barbara Morrison and her quartet in the main room on Wednesdays through March. . . . Bryan Rabin’s hot tip of the month: Fisherspooner’s limited engagement at downtown’s Standard hotel. The New York-based art collective is performing four free shows, next Thursday-March 3. I’m told the troupe is soooo New Wave. Right on. . . .
Speaking of New Wavers, Lo-Ball rocked the Viper Room this week, resulting in A & R fireworks. Lead singer, actress Pauley Perrette, has a role in Cameron Crowe’s latest Tom Cruise flick and Gene Simmons’ VH1 pilot, “Smash.†We told you she was a star. . . . Next week, I’ll tell you the one about the promoter who asked me to keep a secret and the club owner who asked me to zip my lip. I’ll also give you the dish on breakfast with Gladys Knight. Yo, I’d be her pip any day.
