Writers, Studios to Discuss Pact Proposals

Having exchanged new proposals Friday for a labor contract, writers and studios will caucus separately starting Tuesday to discuss them after evaluating them over the weekend. The two sides have been negotiating since Jan. 22. The contract between writers and studios expires May 2. Both sides have been far apart on money issues, including the residuals that writers are paid when their work airs in foreign and cable markets, and on creative issues, such as how involved writers should be in the filmmaking process.
