It’s Time to Regroup Before Stretch Run
Henry Bibby was asked this week if he knew how good the Trojans were this season.
“I don’t know,†replied the USC coach. “Not yet.â€
Bibby and the 22nd-ranked Trojans hope the answer wasn’t supplied Thursday in the 85-76 loss to UCLA.
For all the good things the Trojans have done in crafting their 16-6 record, it’s also obvious what they haven’t done--beat the kind of high-level opponent that brings respect.
To date, the Trojans’ most notable win was over then-No. 18 Utah in the Wooden Classic in December. But the 13-9 Utes, who have also lost to Weber State and Southern Utah, are not the measuring stick they have been in other seasons.
Despite having a talented, veteran team, USC still stumbles in the spotlight against conference powers Arizona, Stanford and UCLA. The Trojans don’t have any more chances against the Bruins. They have games remaining against the Cardinal and Wildcats, both at home.
