* Jazz Screenings--UC Santa Barbara’s Arts & Lectures will screen two Robert Drew documentaries Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Campbell Hall. The first is “Jazz: The Intimate Art,†a close-up look at Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck and Charles Lloyd. The second is “On the Road With Duke Ellington,†in which the filmmaker goes on tour with Ellington, following him in the recording studio, hotels, concert halls and other locales. $6. 893-3535.
* Theater--Seaside Theatre Company will open Phil Zwerling’s “Soul Play†Friday at Theatre Molly Barbey, 5315 Foothill Road, Carpinteria. Set in 1912, the play dramatizes the life of Swedish playwright August Strindberg. Show times: Friday, 8 p.m.; Saturday, 2 and 8 p.m.; Sunday, 2 p.m. Through Feb. 18. $10. 684-6380.
* Middle East--â€Masters of Persian Music,†a rare joint tour of Iranian classical music stars, will be held Sunday at UC Santa Barbara’s Campbell Hall. Arranged by the World Music institute in New York City, the event features vocalist Mohammad Reza Shajarian, lutist Hossein Alizadeh and spike fiddle player Kayhan Kalhor. Ethnomusicologist Scott Marcus will present the preconcert lecture, “An Introduction to Persian Classical Music,†at 7 p.m. $14-$28. 893-3535.
* Bluegrass Legend--Bluegrass patriarch Ralph Stanley and his Clinch Mountain Boys Band will perform Monday at SOhO restaurant, 1221 State St., Santa Barbara. Stanley has been performing his brand of acoustic country music for 54 years. $10. 962-7776.
