New Year’s Closings

* Mail: All post offices are closed and no mail will be delivered Tuesday.

* Banks: Some banks will have shorter hours Monday. All banks are closed Tuesday.

* Courts: All courts are closed Tuesday.

* Schools: The Los Angeles Unified School District is closed until Wednesday. Most other public schools in Los Angeles County are closed until Jan. 7.

* Libraries: City and county libraries are closed Tuesday. Some libraries are closed or have shorter hours Monday.

* Government: All federal, state, county and municipal offices--except those providing emergency services--are closed Tuesday. Most city and county offices are open regular hours Monday.

* Transportation: The MTA is offering free rides on buses from 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, and on the rail system from 9 p.m. Monday to closing (generally at midnight). MTA rail service and buses will follow Sunday schedules on Tuesday. Metrolink trains are closed Tuesday.

* Trash: There will be no trash pickup in the city of Los Angeles on Tuesday. If your trash is normally picked up Tuesday through Friday, pickup will be postponed one day.
