Jonas Frick, 39, a filmmaker and director of TV commercials in the United States and Europe, died Saturday in a New York City hospital where he was being treated for pneumonia.
Born and reared in Lycksele in northern Sweden, Frick studied film in Stockholm and in 1988 directed the action comedy “Strul,” starring Bjoern Skifs.
He later turned to commercials and in 2000 moved to the United States, where he worked for the production company Radical Media.
Frick had directed several car commercials, and was about to start a movie project, his stepmother Kerstin Kvint said.
He was in New York scouting locations for his next commercial, Kvint said, when he became sick over the weekend and had to go to the hospital.
