A look at the top 25 girls’ basketball teams:
1. Lynwood (8-0, SS-San Gabriel)
Could not have had a better week, with three victories in Nike Tournament of Champions over teams ranked 4, 8 and 13 nationally.
2. Narbonne (6-2, CS-Marine)
Emergence from TOC as definitive No. 1 team in the country failed to materialize.
3. San Clemente (9-3, SS-South Coast)
Lindsey Pluimer averaged 28 points at TOC, but Tritons’ defense hurt by lack of a 30-second clock.
4. Troy (9-0, SS-Freeway)
Held off Buena in the fourth quarter for Santa Barbara title with only two starters on the court.
5. Long Beach Poly (10-0, SS-Moore)
Jackrabbits make a leap after beating previously No. 3 Artesia on Saturday, 75-67.
6. Artesia (7-2, SS-Suburban)
Should have had no trouble getting up for Poly after losing to the Jackrabbits last season, too.
7. Hart (11-1, SS-Foothill)
Indians are riding a seven-game winning streak into Orange County Championship.
8. Buena (7-3, SS-Channel)
Bulldogs aren’t the same team that lost consecutive games two weeks ago.
9. Brea Olinda (4-3, SS-Orange)
Defense is giving up 39.4 points per game.
10. Bishop Montgomery (8-2, SS-Del Rey)
Two of last three victories have been over Westchester and Redondo Union.
11. Esperanza (8-2, SS-Sunset)
Won last season’s Orange County Championship despite losing a game, and try to defend title this week against a loaded field.
12. Woodbridge (9-1, SS-Sea View)
Beaten by Artesia, 57-43, lost as many games last week as it did all last season.
13. Mater Dei (10-1, SS-Serra)
With another two minutes, might have overtaken Buena and been undefeated.
14. Westchester (5-2, CS-Western)
Idle last week, go to Bay area this week for West Coast Jamboree.
15. El Dorado (11-0, SS-Empire)
Likely to be tested at Marina tournament.
16. Santa Barbara (10-1, SS-Channel)
Split games last week with ranked Troy and Ventura.
17. Ventura (12-2, SS-Channel)
Lost to likely Central California power Fresno Clovis West, and followed with overtime defeat by Santa Barbara, 61-58.
18. Norco (6-2, SS-Mountain View)
Didn’t play last week; this week makes first appearance in Orange County Championship.
19. Keppel (11-2, SS-Almont)
Make debut after beating two ranked teams last week, and falling short against Woodbridge, 43-40.
20. Long Beach Wilson (4-1, SS-Moore)
Defeated Bishop Amat, lost to Keppel.
21.Valencia (8-7, SS-Foothill)
Went 2-2 last week against ranked teams, including victory over then-No. 10 Bishop Amat and tough seven-point loss to Long Beach Poly.
22. Bishop Amat (11-2, SS-Del Rey)
Loss to Long Beach Wilson on Saturday was Lancers’ first game against team ranked in the top 25. Also lost to Valencia.
23. Pasadena Muir (8-0, SS-Pacific)
Didn’t play last week, nothing scheduled this week.
24. Eisenhower (9-0, SS-Citrus Belt)
Defeated Apple Valley by 24 to win its own tournament.
25. Edison (6-4, SS-Sunset)
Chance to prove itself this week in its home gym as host of Orange County Championship.
