The Oldest Senator, Ever, Celebrates 99th Birthday
Sen. Strom Thurmond plans to quietly celebrate his 99th birthday as the oldest member of Congress ever.
Senate Republicans at their weekly luncheon sang “Happy Birthday†to Thurmond, who said: “I love all of you and if you’re women, I love you even more.â€
Thurmond, who recently moved into Walter Reed Army Medical Center to have his health monitored, said in a statement that he looked forward to a final year in Congress before retirement.
Thurmond plans to celebrate his 99th birthday with a private party today.
