Valued ZIP Codes

Thank you for using the ZIP Code 91775 in “Value Judgments” by Susan Carrier (Nov. 11).
I have lived in this ZIP Code since before there was a ZIP Code and, as a real estate professional, I feel it is my duty to point out an interesting fact about 91775 that even Realtors often don’t know.
As you are aware, school districts often affect real estate pricing. Each time the L.A. Times publishes the local sales information by ZIP Code, the error in our 91775 statistics glares out. We actually have four school districts, Temple City, Pasadena, San Gabriel and San Marino, within the ZIP Code. Some of these districts are more desirable than others, and to average the sales of homes in this ZIP Code is a real disservice to residents here. It is truly comparing apples to oranges.
Astute Realtors realize this and price their listings accordingly. Those unfamiliar with the ZIP Code can either price their listings too high or too low.
A disclaimer should be made by The Times in all statistical data that other factors may affect property values.
