Lakewood Mayfair 33, Laguna Hills 18--Jimmy Manly rushed for 264 yards in 30 carries and scored three touchdowns, leading fourth-seeded Mayfair in a Division VI semifinal at Bellflower High.
The Monsoons (10-3) advanced to the section finals for the second time in the school’s 43-year history. Mayfair won the Division IX title in 1998.
Manly scored on a 61-yard run midway through the second quarter to give the Monsoons a 12-10 lead. Eric Camarillo later returned a punt 68 yards for a touchdown, giving Mayfair a 19-10 lead at the half.
Manly broke the game open on a 64-yard touchdown run on the third play of the second half. Laguna Hills (7-6) stopped Mayfair twice on fourth and goal in the second half, but couldn’t cut into the Mayfair lead with three costly turnovers in the second half.
