Portuguese Men Buried Alive, Coroner Says
Six Portuguese tourists killed in a brutal robbery this month were tortured and buried alive beneath the concrete floor of a Brazilian beach bar, a coroner said. At least six suspects are under arrest for the slayings.
Luis Melitao Guerreiro, also Portuguese and a friend of one of the victims, confessed to robbing the six men and ordering five accomplices to kill and bury them at his seafront bar in Fortaleza. “It all started out in jest,†Guerreiro told reporters at police headquarters. “I’m a monster and deserve the death penalty.â€
Two security guards employed at the bar confessed Saturday to carrying out the crime. Police unearthed the tourists’ decomposed bodies Friday.
