Hiker, 74, Killed in Fall From Cliff
A 74-year-old man died Saturday after falling off a cliff in a popular hiking area, authorities said.
His name had not been released pending notification of relatives.
The afternoon accident happened in the Escondido Falls area off Winding Way, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Cally Barrier.
The man was with a group of about 10 hikers from the Thousand Oaks area, authorities said. He and a few of the others decided to go on a steeper hike. He went ahead of the group to check out the trail and fell about 60 feet.
Barrier said the man suffered severe head injuries and “was dead on impact.â€
