Bad Time at Fair

Took the day off yesterday and the wife and I tried to go to the Ventura County Fair, but I guess Glen Campbell strained the city’s primitive traffic control resources and we couldn’t get in.

There were hundreds--literally hundreds--of people waiting for shuttles from the overflow lot that were nowhere to be seen. That lot only contained about a hundred or so cars. Do the math. We left.

Ventura does a wonderful job encouraging tourism by shutting down its streets, posting no signs with directions and all in all making return visitors feel about as welcome as the plague. We even asked a very helpful police officer but even he admitted that he had “no idea what streets they’ve shut down.â€

It is a great county fair--we’ve been there before and loved it. Too bad they’d rather not let in visitors to enjoy it. Too bad they owe me five bucks for parking. Too bad the organizers make a shambles out of something that every other county and municipality in the state can pull off without a hitch.

Weather was great, though. Great for standing around a parking lot, looking for buses.
