Allen Heads List to Replace Lewis
The Baltimore Ravens reportedly signed running back Terry Allen to a one-year contract Friday in Westminster, Md., as they began their search for someone to replace Jamal Lewis.
Lewis, who rushed for 1,364 yards as a rookie last season, is out for the year because of a knee injury. A seemingly innocent tackle by Kelly Gregg during Wednesday’s practice left Lewis with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee.
Greg Hill, Robert Chancey, Chris Warren, Mario Bates and Allen worked out for the Ravens Friday. There was also speculation about a return of tailback Errict Rhett, an ex-Raven and Cleveland Brown.
Baltimore is hoping to add an experienced player to offset first-year player and NFL Europe standout Jason Brookins and fifth-round draft pick Chris Barnes from New Mexico State.

Neil Rackers kicked a 34-yard field goal as time expired, lifting the Cincinnati Bengals to a 27-24 victory over the Detroit Lions at Pontiac, Mich. Owen Pochman kicked four field goals as the New England Patriots beat the New York Giants, 14-0, at Foxboro, Mass. The Giants managed only 92 yards and six first downs.
