Fund-Raiser to Aid Retired Police Officer
Officers with the Ventura Police Department will hold a fund-raiser Saturday for retired Cpl. Mark Riddering, who suffers from Lou Gehrig’s disease.
The off-duty officers will be joined by members of the Santa Maria Police Department at a barbecue to be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Albertsons at 7800 Telegraph Road in Ventura.
Riddering was a Ventura police officer from 1981 to 1987, and also worked for the Port Hueneme and Oxnard police departments. He began working for the Santa Maria police force in 1989 and retired in 1999.
The Ventura and Santa Maria police forces are raising funds to buy an electric wheelchair for Riddering.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the front desk of the Ventura Police Department at 1425 Dowell Drive or at the barbecue. Donations can be sent to the Santa Maria Police Officers Assn., P.O. Box 6509, Santa Maria, 93456-6509.
