Rapist Wins Release Under Tougher Rules
A judge has decided to free a rapist, the first sex predator recommended for release since a tougher law to treat California’s most violent sexual offenders took effect in 1996.
Patrick Ghilotti, 45, will be released from Atascadero State Hospital after Marin County Superior Court Judge John S. Graham approves his outpatient treatment.
Ghilotti was convicted in 1978 of raping three women. After his release from prison in 1986, he raped another. And by his own admission, he has raped at least six others.
He will probably be required to keep taking testosterone-reducing drugs; wear a monitor to track his movements; participate in group, individual and couples counseling; submit to polygraph tests; and check in with local authorities.
