GM, News Corp. Still in Talks Over Hughes

General Motors Corp. and Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. are still negotiating an agreement on the sale of GM’s stake in Hughes Electronics Corp., said Eddy Hartenstein, chief executive of Hughes’ DirecTV unit. “We’ve rounded the corner in our talks with News Corp.,” Hartenstein said in a speech at the Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Assn. annual conference in Nashville. “Is the deal done? Not yet.” He wasn’t more specific. The two companies have been negotiating the sale for more than 18 months. News Corp. has said it wants to combine DirecTV with its Sky Global Networks satellite-TV operations.
