Band Teacher Is Accused of Molesting Girl

A band instructor at a highly selective magnet school in Cerritos has been arrested on suspicion of molesting a 17-year-old female student.
George Lawrence Barber, 39, has been charged with two counts of lewd acts with the Whitney High School student between Jan. 16 and April 3, said County Sheriff’s Det. Todd Megerle.
Barber, who has taught at the school for two years, was freed on $25,000 bail after his arrest Friday. He could not be reached for comment Saturday.
Whitney is in the ABC Unified School District, which serves Artesia, Bellflower and Cerritos.
The school district, Megerle said, began an internal investigation into Barber after receiving information that he might have been misusing a school computer.
