New Location Sought for 1908 Craftsman Chalet

This two-story, 1908 Craftsman Chalet looks out of place in its current central Pasadena neighborhood, surrounded by sleek commercial and apartment buildings. The current owner is seeking a buyer who could move the house to a more architecturally suitable neighborhood.

Designed by the Foss Designing and Building Co., the approximately 3,000-square-foot house is described in the Pasadena Historic Resources Inventory as “one of the finer examples of works of the Foss Company†and appears to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.

The house has not been altered from its early design and the original wood stain still remains on the exterior shingles.

The four-bedroom house features a central hall, large formal living and dining rooms with 11-foot coffered ceilings and a library with pocket doors.

Ted Hollinger of Master House Movers said that the house could easily be “split down the middle†so that it could navigate the narrow streets. Hollinger estimates that the move (not counting expenses to move overhead wires) would cost about $30,000.

The owner is asking a “very negotiable†$25,000 for the house, land not included. For more information, contact Pam Dellon of Dilbeck Realtors, (818) 790-8967.
