Entering the season, Hueneme was best known for power-hitting first baseman Jaime Martinez.

He hasn’t disappointed.

Martinez’s three home runs and 18 runs batted in rank among Ventura County leaders.

The Vikings (7-5, 3-3 in the Pacific View League) have been surprising on the basepaths, leading the county with 28 stolen bases. Gherrett Levette, Hueneme’s No. 2 batter, has 10 steals in 11 attempts. Leadoff hitter Leslie Lee has stolen successfully on all nine attempts.

Since returning from a broken jaw, Camarillo shortstop Brad Boyer hasn’t missed a beat. He’s batting .500 (12 for 24) with 11 RBIs in eight games. Boyer has eight extra-base hits, including two home runs for the Scorpions (10-3).

Camarillo was bolstered by the return of Delmon Young, who had three hits in a 6-0 victory over Rio Mesa on Friday.

A sore elbow kept Young out of the lineup for a week.

Camarillo ace Jim Alstot pitched a one-hitter and struck out 13 to improve to 4-1 and lower his earned-run average to 2.96. The senior right-hander has 40 strikeouts in 26 innings.

St. Bonaventure left-hander Gilbert Infante absorbed his first loss of the season Friday against Oak Park, capping a week in which the Seraphs (7-4, 2-2 in the Tri-Valley League) lost two games.

Infante (2-1) was outdueled by Oak Park’s Collin Ozar, who allowed one earned run and struck out six in seven innings.

Infante struck out eight in 6 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs. For the season, he has 48 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings and a 2.54 ERA.

Ozar has quietly become one of the Tri-Valley’s top pitchers. He is 3-1 with a 1.75 ERA.
