Providence’s Mayor Accused of Bribery
From Times wire services
A federal grand jury indicted Providence’s longtime mayor on racketeering charges, accusing Vincent Cianci Jr. of soliciting bribes in exchange for city contracts and government promotions.
Cianci, 59, also was accused of using the bribes to line the coffers of his reelection campaign fund.
The mayor, who has denied knowledge of corruption, declined comment. He has been in office for more than 20 years.
