40 Dead, 46 Missing After Ferry Sinks

A Greek ferry carrying 510 passengers sank after hitting a reef near the Aegean Sea island of Paros, killing at least 40 people, the Greek coast guard said today. Officials said more than 400 people had been rescued and 46 were missing after the Express Samina ran aground and sank amid gale-force conditions. A member of the coast guard died of a heart attack during the nighttime rescue operation. Doctors and emergency crews were being airlifted to Paros from nearby islands.
