DOVER, Del. — For the second time this season, Tony Stewart won at Dover Downs International Speedway, also known as the Monster Mile, one of NASCAR’s toughest tracks.
His NASCAR victory in the MBNA.com 400 Sunday was especially impressive because Stewart started 27th in a field of 43. In June, when he won the MBNA Platinum 400, the stock car driver from Rushville, Ind., started 16th.
His Pontiac led 163 of the 400 laps, including the last 54, and beat Johnny Benson’s Pontiac by 6.752 seconds. In June, Stewart led 242.
Bobby Labonte was fourth to increase his lead in the series standings to 249 points.
