A Sunday afternoon car crash in the Griffith Park area left two youths dead and critically injured two others, according to the CHP.
About 4:20 p.m., a teenage boy in a compact car was westbound at high speed on Colorado Boulevard headed for the northbound Golden State Freeway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Karen Faciane.
After a sudden lane change, the car ran off the road and crashed into a large tree, witnesses told authorities.
Three of the four people inside the car had to be extricated with special rescue equipment, Faciane said.
Two teenage passengers, a boy and a girl, died after being taken to County-USC Medical Center. Authorities estimated both were about 15 or 16 years old.
Another female passenger was taken to County-USC Medical Center, and the driver was transported to Glendale Memorial Hospital. Both remained in critical condition.
No one in the car carried any identification, Faciane said.
