IBM, Incyte to Blend Genome Software
ARMONK, N.Y. — IBM Corp. and Incyte Genomics Inc. have agreed to combine their specialized software into a product companies can use to analyze the human genetic code for drug research.
Terms weren’t disclosed. Palo Alto, Calif.-based Incyte, a software and services company for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, will incorporate IBM’s DiscoveryLink data-management software into its own related products.
With the first draft of the human genetic code published, researchers need to sift, compare and analyze huge amounts of data to seek cures for genetic-based diseases. The task involves large databases, powerful computers and specialized software.
Armonk, N.Y-based IBM created a Life Sciences unit last month to sell software, hardware and services to drug companies involved in genome-related research.
