LOCKWOOD VALLEY — Four people were injured, three critically, when two motorcycles collided Sunday morning on California 33 and plunged more than 75 feet down a mountainside, authorities said.
The crash occurred shortly after 11 a.m., just south of Lockwood Valley Road in northern Ventura County, authorities said. Firefighters rappelled down the mountainside to rescue the victims.
Two of the seriously injured were taken by helicopter to county hospitals, and the two others were transported by ambulance. Authorities said some of the victims suffered broken bones.
“It was a remote area and it took quite awhile to get equipment and resources there,” said Ventura County Fire Capt. Wayne Maynard.
The names of the victims and the cause of the accident were not immediately available.
