U.S. Wins Water Polo Exhibition

The U.S. Olympic men’s water polo team defeated Romania, 17-10, Thursday night in a exhibition game at El Toro High.

Chris Humbert led the U.S. with four goals and Wolf Wigo and Tony Azevedo each scored three goals. The United States, which had 24 shots, scored five of the six times they had a man advantage.

The U.S. played Romania last Sunday in an exhibition game and won, 7-4.

Thursday, Humbert and Azevedo represented the bulk of the U.S offense in the first quarter as both scored three goals each. Chris Oeding also scored in the quarter, giving the U.S. a 7-3 lead. Dan Hackett had four saves.

The U.S. will play one more game against Romania Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pepperdine. The team leaves for Sydney on Sunday, and make its Olympic debut Sept. 23.

SOCCER

The Boston Bulldogs shut out the Waves, 3-0, in an A-League soccer game Thursday night in Boston.

Boston (8-16-3) scored in the third minute, then added goals in the 81st and 90th minute. Orange County (11-15-1) finishes the regular season Saturday in Connecticut.
