The Seattle Mariners offered Manager Lou Piniella a new contract after he led the team to a 91-71 record and a spot in the American League championship series, the team said. Mariner Chief Executive Howard Lincoln said he made the offer Wednesday and that Piniella is considering it. . . . Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan ended his three-day hospital stay after his chest pains were diagnosed as angina, a condition treatable by medication.
