Courtney Young of Buena High has committed to national powerhouse Tennessee.
The All-Ventura County girls’ basketball player is the second Buena player to commit to a major college in recent weeks.
Teammate Kelly Greathouse has committed to North Carolina State.
Young, a versatile 5-10 swing player who averaged 15 points, 4.2 assists and 3.3 steals as a junior, will play for legendary Coach Pat Summitt, who led the Volunteers to consecutive national titles from 1996-98.
“She knows so much and I know she’ll make me such a better player,” Young said of Summitt, a Hall of Famer and former Olympic coach.
The Volunteers will lose all three starting guards to graduation after this season.
Young, who began her high school career at Santa Monica Crossroads, transferred to Buena before her junior season.
She also considered Georgia, Duke, Purdue and Ohio State.
CROSS-COUNTRY
The Ventura County championships, scheduled this afternoon at Lake Casitas in Ventura, have been postponed until Monday because the three-mile course was soaked by rain on Thursday.
The meet will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the varsity girls’ race at 4 and the varsity boys’ at 4:30.
