In an effort to forget the recent past, Thousand Oaks Coach Mike Sanders took his team to see “Remember the Titans” last Thursday.
The inspirational football movie apparently did the trick.
After starting the season with five losses, Thousand Oaks finally won last week, defeating Royal, 28-20.
Players and coaches had grown increasingly frustrated as the losses mounted.
“It was a little shaky,” Sanders said. “Everybody was getting on edge. We have great kids and they were putting a lot of pressure on themselves.”
Sanders said the trip to the movies was part fun, part psychology.
“There’s a lot more to this business than X’s and O’s,” Sanders said.
“Sometimes you’ve got to find a way to lighten people up.”
Thousand Oaks hosts Agoura on Friday.
