Chaparral Elementary School in the Las Virgenes [Unified] School District is bursting at the seams with students. Each fourth- and fifth-grade class has 35 students to one teacher. Many classes at A.E. Wright Middle School and Calabasas High have 42 students per class. So why would a whole neighborhood want to leave Los Angeles Unified School District for Las Virgenes? At least in LAUSD there are choices in the form of magnet schools, which guarantee a low student-teacher ratio while providing a terrific education.
