Giving Thanks for Shaq Is All in Holiday Spirit
Dear Bill Plaschke:
Thanks for ruining my Thanksgiving. If you’d known how hard I’ve worked at maintaining a hatred of all things Lakers over the years, and how intensely I’ve rooted against that mammoth, bad-foul-shooting, bad-rappin’ bad-actin’ gets-away-with-murder, one-named center they’ve got, you’d be more considerate.
Your brilliant “Little Deaf Dude†story today makes life difficult for people like me. Lay off already. You’ve destroyed whatever pleasure I’ve gotten watching the big guy clank one off the rim or blow a slam dunk. I hope you’re satisfied.

I normally don’t read the sports section, but Bill Plaschke’s article on Shaquille O’Neal’s kindness to John Cortez caught my eye. This is a true Thanksgiving celebration of the giving spirit that exists in the world. How heartening that it came from someone who many people literally look up to as an idol and a great basketball star. Thank you for making me cry with tears of joy at the breakfast table on Thanksgiving.
