Giving Thanks for Shaq Is All in Holiday Spirit

Dear Bill Plaschke:

Thanks for ruining my Thanksgiving. If you’d known how hard I’ve worked at maintaining a hatred of all things Lakers over the years, and how intensely I’ve rooted against that mammoth, bad-foul-shooting, bad-rappin’ bad-actin’ gets-away-with-murder, one-named center they’ve got, you’d be more considerate.

Your brilliant “Little Deaf Dude� story today makes life difficult for people like me. Lay off already. You’ve destroyed whatever pleasure I’ve gotten watching the big guy clank one off the rim or blow a slam dunk. I hope you’re satisfied.

I normally don’t read the sports section, but Bill Plaschke’s article on Shaquille O’Neal’s kindness to John Cortez caught my eye. This is a true Thanksgiving celebration of the giving spirit that exists in the world. How heartening that it came from someone who many people literally look up to as an idol and a great basketball star. Thank you for making me cry with tears of joy at the breakfast table on Thanksgiving.
