Regrets Over Scrapping the Prize Scrapbook

Regarding “Extreme Scrappers’ Motto: Just Glue It,†(Nov. 14): My sister and I were scrapbookers when we bought our blank books at Woolworth’s. No one even thought of taking lessons or acid free paper; we just put our souvenirs in a book as we acquired them. An invitation, some birthday cards, a matchbook from a special restaurant.

My books got thick with enclosures. Corsage ribbons from the orchid for my senior prom, wedding showers, baby showers. Then, we moved out of our big house: big squeeze, big garage sale. Somehow, this seemed like the right time for the scrapbooks to go. Amazingly, a dealer who bought odds and ends was willing to pay a small amount for them.

What was I thinking? I fantasize that I’ll find them someday in some thrift shop, ignored by those who think them worthless.
