Cypress Must Play at La Mirada
Cypress already knew it would be in for a battle against La Mirada in the second round of the Southern Section football playoffs, but the Centurions’ task became more difficult Sunday when they lost a coin flip.
Cypress will play Friday at La Mirada, the top-seeded team in Division VI. Cypress advanced by defeating Saddleback, 40-14, on Saturday. La Mirada opened with a 52-6 victory over Woodbridge on Friday. Because both teams played home games, a coin flip determined the home team in the next round.
Coin flips weren’t needed to determine home teams in two other games involving Orange County teams. Lakewood Mayfair, which beat El Modena Saturday, 28-21, will host second-seeded Irvine in Division VI.
In Division X, Calvary Chapel will play a home game against top-seeded Ventura St. Bonaventure, which beat Malibu, 69-7, Saturday.
