Carson Girls Have Perfect Ending
Carson High won the City Section girls’ tennis championship Friday by defeating defending champion Granada Hills, 4-3, at Balboa Recreation Center in Encino.
The victory helped Carson erase memories of last year’s loss to Granada Hills in the championship match.
Carson (17-0) tied the score, 3-3, when Judith De Vera defeated Jasmin Dao, 7-5, 6-3, with only the No. 2 doubles match to be completed.
Carson’s Kay Lozano and Ann Baun lost the first set against Andrea Blieden and Tracey Takeshita, 6-2, but came back to win the second set, 6-4, forcing a decisive third set.
Lozano and Baun overcame a 2-0 deficit to take the lead, but Blieden and Takeshita tied the score, 3-3. Lozano and Baun won the next two games and held on to clinch the victory.
