In other Division III playoff openers:
Crescenta Valley 23, Leuzinger 0--The Falcons won their first playoff game since 1992 by shutting down the Olympians’ double wing-T offense, which entered the game averaging more than 300 yards rushing, at Glendale High.
Crescenta Valley (10-1) limited Leuzinger (6-5) to 191 yards.
Jason Hogan had 102 yards and a touchdown in 19 carries, and Brent Clissold kicked field goals of 33, 25 and 34 yards. The Falcons will play Hart in a quarterfinal next week.
Hogan opened the scoring with a 50-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter.
Crescenta Valley capitalized on Leuzinger’s punting problems for its final 10 first-half points. Ryan Radenbaugh blocked Eddie Hernandez’s punt, giving the Falcons the ball at the Leuzinger two.
Three plays later, quarterback Hudson Gossard scored on a one-yard run.
Crescenta Valley took over on the Leuzinger 17 on its next possession following a bad center snap on an Olympian punt, leading to Clissold’s 33-yard field goal with 41 seconds left in the half.
Gossard completed 15 of 27 passes for 113 yards with one interception. It was the first playoff victory for Alan Eberhart since he became coach in 1993.
