Teenager Accused of Shooting at Police
LOS ANGELES — A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of shooting at police officers who were trying to break up a disturbance at John Muir Middle School.
The youth, whose name was being withheld because he is a minor, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer, police said.
Police said the incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when officers from the 77th Street precinct answered a call about a disturbance involving juveniles at Muir Middle School at 5929 S. Vermont Ave.
As officers tried to detain the group, a 17-year-old boy fled. When officers gave chase, the teenager turned and fired one shot from a chrome, .25-caliber automatic pistol, police said.
The youth then threw down the gun and was arrested without resistance, police said.
